Summary: Mozy offers online file backup services for home and business users.

Details: MozyHome for home users (both free 2GB account and unlimited storage paid account) supported platforms include Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000. Mac support on MozyHome includes Mac OS X 10.4 and Mac OS X 10.5. You can have up to 5 computers on one MozyHome account. In addition to supporting the operating systems mentioned in MozyHome, MozyPro also supports Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003, Mac OS X Server 10.4 and Mac OS X Server 10.5. The added benefit for business users is the ability to backup SQL, Exchange, File servers, network shares and mapped drive support.

Both versions of Mozy, either for home or office, use 128 Bit SSL encryption, and 448-bit Blowfish on-disk encryption. Both also provide for AES Private Encryption where you hold the key instead of Mozy.

With Mozy backup software, you are able to backup any hard drive that is identified as a “fixed disk” on your computer. MozyPro users are able to backup NAS drives as well as directly attached drives.

You can get started with a Free Trial to put it to the test for yourself. Data encryption is standard and your files are protected locally and remotely in every communication. Your encrypted data is stored that way on their systems as well. You have the option of providing your own encryption key so that in the event that anyone else ever obtained a hard drive with your information, it would be useless because they would not be able to decrypt it.

The data uploads (your backups) will be managed by the Mozy application that runs on your computer. You can also start the restore process using the backup software from Mozy as well. They also offer you the ability to have your data copied to DVDs and sent overnight to you for a small fee.

Free Mozy account available: Free 2GB MozyHome account available, which you can try here and upgrade it to a paid account when you are ready.

Paid Mozy account available: MozyHome (both free 2GB account and unlimited storage paid account) You can have up to 5 computers on one MozyHome account, but each computer has a $4.95/Month subscription to the service.
